Band Aid Mathematics and Problem Solving
This week our poem was a mathematical challenge. Students needed to work together and use a range of maths strategies. It was lots of fun.

Band-Aids
by Shel Silverstein

I have a Band-Aid on my finger,
One on my knee, and one on my nose,
One on my heel, and two on my shoulder,
Three on my elbow, and nine on my toes.
Two on my wrist, and one on my ankle,
One on my chin, and one on my thigh,
Four on my belly, and five on my bottom,
One on my forehead, and one on my eye.
One on my neck, and in case I might need em
I have a box of thirty-five more.
But oh! I do think it's sort of a pity
I don't have a cut or a sore!

Maths Games to Try:
Penguin Pop                   Cool Maths
Snakes and Ladders                Save the Whale

We have been busy learning our mathematical number knowledge and geometry over the last few weeks. We have discussed Kandinsky and his use of geometrical shapes. We have created our own art using 2d shapes - we haven't quite finished them so we will share where they are finished.

Come and play a game with us - look at our cool maths games that we play in class to help us!
How quickly can we place the questions into the cups?

Group work with Mrs Kilkolly and making a game to take home to Mum and Dad to help with doubles and halves

Measurement

This week we will be doing lots of measurement. See if you can find different types of measurement around your house? Do you have a BAROMETER  or maybe a rain gauge?  Come and share 5 different types of measurements to win a prize!

Today we had loads of fun measuring the distance of our catapults that we made. We worked together working out problems, we found out about estimating and different forms of measurement. I wondering if you can make one at home? Have a go!
What does estimating mean?
If we didn't have a metre ruler how could we estimate? What was our trick?
How many cm are there in one metre?

Have a go with this....

Measurement  week continues.....

What an interesting week exploring millimetres, centimetres, metres and kilometres! We discussed different forms or measurement. Chloe and Paige won the prize - they found different forms of measurement around the house! So much fun!

These are some of the words we used this week:

estimate
approximately
CM=centimetres

We had lots of fun measuring ourselves and comparing! Check out the photos and our fotobabbles! At home talk about your flower.

Think about these questions:
How did you measure your flower?
How do you use a ruler?
Compare your families hands, feet, arms etc - what did you discover?

This week we will continue looking at counting forward and backwards in 2', 5's and 10's (refer to the clips below) PLUS this week we will start looking at Place Value

Here are a few games we play in the class - have a go at home with Mum and Dad!

'Guess My Number' To 10 OR 20                         Noggle - How many ways can you                                                                                                                          make 10 OR 20?

Dominoes - add OR subtract them together. Highest answer wins

Matching Game - Making 10 OR 20

Rockets - Place Value (roll 2 dice) Place on the rocket from 10 - 67

This week we had an awesome time with our odd and even numbers - Can you remember them? Have a go with this little song we loved this week. Go for a walk with Mum or Dad down the road - what do you notice about the letterboxes?

This week we are learning about doubles and halves - sing the song to you family this week - We had lots of fun clapping and clicking. What can you do to help you learn your doubles ? How about star jumps, throwing a ball to mum or dad !!!!!

Here are some really COOL games to play with Mum and Dad. Remember Year 3 students you have been given an IXL account and Year 2 students a Sumdog Account (shortly)!
